Saturday 10th September 2005 - SBA In Nice
Dear diary, We went to the beach today! It has been very hot and sunny for a change! We then decided that we'd treat ourselves to dinner at a new venue in town called 'Ma Nolans'! It was great!! The gig tonight was a little disappointing to begin with. Unfortunately the French aren't very big drinkers and they don't really know how to enjoy themselves!! so, naturally the bloody place was full of them!! The first set was really quite tame with no table dancing etc. The second set kicked off to a flying start with a guest appearance from Justin(psycho entertainments manager) singing Basket Case by Greenday. He shouted plenty of abuse at the French punters which was quite funny. They had two choices. Get a pint and enjoy the music or get out!! Quite a few left making way for some real party animals!! The rest of the set was a scream and we finished up with our own rendition of 'Rocking all over the world' by 'Status Quo'. It was memorable!! It was then our turn to party to Justins disco with shots a plenty (THANKS VANESSA)!

Dear diary, Yipppeeeee! We've had our first bit of sunshine today. It was overcast to begin with but we managed to go to the beach at 4pm! Dan's been suffering with a pourly tummy today which was in no way 'self inflicted' (poor Dan)!! The gig tonight was another cracker with lots of dancing on tables and general craziness!! Dan broke another string at the end of the second set whilst flipping out to Freebird! A big thankyou to all you crazy people who signed up to our mailing list. You'll be hearing from us soon!!

Thursday 8th September 2005 - SBA In Nice
Dear diary, Got up this morning and the weather is awfull. It's pouring down!! We have been stuck in Wayne's all day drinking beer and watching the cricket(what a hard life)! The gig tonight was an absolute belter. The crowd were fantastic and really got into it. Dan managed to break yet another string at the end of the first set. The second set was even more crazy than the first with a really good relationship between us and the crowd. It was a rocking good night!! Dan and Chappers then retired for an early night(3am) whilst Scott and Smoo attended another little get together at Justins 'Cave'. Lots of fun was had and they rolled in at about 5am!!

Wednesday 7th September 2005 - SBA In Nice
Dear diary, The fun just never stops!! After last nights escapade we had to endure a 3hour sound check after lunch to try and get the bloody sound system sorted!! Tempers frayed(again) but we managed to get it sorted properly this time. The weather was awfull again today!! The night was much better though although we did have to sit in the bar and watch England lose 1-0 to Northern Ireland!! The gig went suprisingly well and the PA didn't cut out this time!! The crowd were having a good time too. We were back in full swing again!!

Tuesday 6th September 2005 - SBA In Nice
Dear diary, We've had a total nightmare today. The weather has been rubbish so we were unable to visit the beach. We then had to soundcheck the PA after dinner which didnt go at all well. The PA kept cutting out and the guys couldnt sort it out. They eventually got it sorted(or so we thought)!! We got up on stage to start our first set and the bloody PA cut out straight away!! We were not amused!! It then took 10 embarrasing minutes to sort the problem out before we could start the set. The first set was going ok untill we had a power cut and when the power came back on the sound levels had changed. This caused the PA to keep cutting out again and we walked off stage!! We then had to witness a massive argument between the bar manager and the owner! Poor Matt, it was his birthday as well and he wasn't even supposed to be working! The sound engineers came back, sorted the problem and we went back on stage to perform the second set under the watchfull eye of the owner. There were a few cut outs during the second set which added to our embarrasment!! The manager made us play on regardless but even he was begining to look a bit sheepish! Crunch time came when we were playing the end of Freebird. Dan was in full swing playing the end solo when the PA cut out again!! In true diva style he looked across at the manager shouted a few expletives, dropped his guitar and stormed off stage!!! The night came to an abrupt halt and the manager was powerless at the mercy of the sound engineers! What a strange gig!!!

Monday 5th September 2005 - SBA In Nice
Dear diary, We arrived in Nice today and it was good to see all the familiar sites. We arrived at Wayne's only to find out that the stage was being completely rebuilt and that it wasn't going to be ready for the gig!! After some deliberation it was decided that we would play an accoustic set in the restaurant. We had steak for dinner which was nice! We then had to set up and prepare for the gig. To be honest we weren't really looking forward to it! WHAT A SUPRISE!! It was a cracking gig. We played all the usual covers and a few originals in a kind of hill billy fashion. The crowd absolutely loved it and joined in with a few yeeeehaaaa's!!! We then left Wayne's and went to a new club in Nice called 'The Cave'(its owned by Justin the manager). We had fun down there!!!

Sunday 20th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary, Oh dear! Had to get up early this morning and pack our stuff ready to leave at midday. We didnt feel very well. This was not too good as we had an enduring 12 hour journey ahead of us. Things went t*ts up as soon as we got to Nice airport. Our flight had been delayed by 45mins. This meant that we arrived in Paris late and didnt have enough time to get from one airport to the other to catch our second flight. We missed it by 10mins (bugger)!! This was slowly turning in to a nightmare when we were told that there were no more flights to England tonight. We continued to explain that this was their fault (Air France, say no more) and that we needed to get home tonight. We ended up on a flight to Heathrow an hour later which gave us just enough time to grab something to eat (get on Gilly)!! We arrived at Heathrow at 8pm. Just when we thought we were home with no problems, our equipment did not end up on the baggage claim. Thanks to Smoo's quick thinking, (yes thats right SMOO'S QUICK THINKING) he went and checked the oversize baggage claim and our gear was there!! We then met our taxi and had a safe journey home back to Honiton, Devon. Oh what a happy ending!! TRNSFERDEMAND!!

Saturday 19th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary, hello. What a finale to our week in Nice. Got up this morning, went to the bar and had breakfast. Chappers was unable to make it as he was feeling as rough as sh*t!! We watched the FA cup tie between Arsenal and Shefield Utd (what a game)! Chappers just about made it for dinner at 6pm. We then went back to the flat and freshened up ready for our last gig of the week and what a gig it was. The crowd were in good spirit and very happy to see us (which was nice). The night was rocking by the middle of the second set and Justin came on stage!! He then sang 'Jumping Jack Flash' with us! It was a really good end to the gig. You could say it was a GAS (if you want to)!! Vanessa was on top form as well, suppling us with shots throughout our second set (thanx mate)! We came off stage and the party began! We had a boogie to Justin's self proclaimed "worst disco in the world"! At closing time we had to partake in the Wayne's tradition of downing an 'Irish car bomb' with nothing on except our pants. We did a car bomb in our pants!! We then helped the staff clean the bar before heading down the road for more drinks. Scott and Smoo played pool against Simon and John and won 'come on SBA'. We then went home at closing time (5am)!

Friday 18th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary. Had lunch in Wayne's and then scott went back to bed for the afternoon. Dan, Smoo and Chappers stayed in the pub and watched films! Then we had dinner! mousetrap!00 We are running low on energy and we're not quite functioning (function partyt) properly. This seems to be the norm near the end of the week in Nice. Scott had a shower and changed his clothes for the first time this week!! The gig kicked off with a bang. The pi**ed fu*kers were d*ncing on the tab=es before we went on stage. It made for a very wild gig though! Smoo broke another string (D)! The rest of the gig was rock! Kamakaze shots were flowing very nicelyindeed! We then came off stage and had a shot of sambuka, more kamakaze's and a red thing! We were a bit drunk by the time we left Wayne's!! Went to the Blue Wales for a pint and played games on a French quiz machine. We then got a kebab and wandered back to the flat. Just before we reached the flat we spotted a crepe stand. It wasn't built very well. More like a crap stand really!! We all had Nutella crepes for afters. This turned in to fun! The foyer is in a bit of a mess! There's crepe everywhere (chappers)!!

Thursday 17th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary. Sorry about that. We had a bit of 'writers block'!! Today was fun! We went to the shops and got some keys cut for the band flat. We then watched a Peruvian pipe band dressed as Red Indians outside the shopping mall. We then walked around the old town and looked in some real leather shops (GREAT)!! After dinner it was time to get ready for a busy night. Thursday nights in Wayne's Bar is traditionaly known as 'Ladies Night'!! It was packed and we had a very good gig. Scott managed to break yet another string on Smoo's guitar! "You cant help it when you're caught up in the rythmn". We are now officially sponsored by Ernie Ball. We started on the shots tonight! Vanessa is great!! We then continued to drink and party. The Blue wales was fun too!! Had a donner and chips wrap, went home and watched 'I Robot' at 4am! P or T??!!

Wednesday 16th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary, Had a very relaxing day today. We spent all day in Wayne's Bar drinking beer and watching dvd's. At about 8pm Scott and Chappers thought it would be a good idea to go and watch some of the carnival. They chose the wrong night unfortunately as It had finished. This was a good oppertunity for Chappers to film some random French weirdo's. Hopefully there will be some footage on the website soon!! It was a very quiet gig (again)! We had fun though!! Pannini, dvd then bed. Shane mcgowan is very inspirational!!

Tuesday 15th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary, Got up this morning (what a relief) and had a chicken and bacon club sandwich (just what the doctor ordered). We had a bit of a strange afternoon to say the least. Scott decided that he wanted to go for a jog across the sea front. Dan decided that he wanted to go for a cycle. He borrowed a push bike from John the barman. It was a picture!! The evening was very quiet due to the popularity of the Nice carnival. We played well and had fun on stage though! We then left Wayne's and nearly tripped over a tramp who was asleep under the big door mat leading in to the foyer. We felt a bit sorry for him and left two cans of Heiniken by his side. We then went to 'Thor' again. There we met Jacob and John (both barmen from Wayne's having a night off) Who were both completely pissed. Jacob was the worst. He just couldn't stop getting his ball bag out and insulting French people with it!! We then left Thor at closing time and proceeded to the nearest Kebab shop where things took a turn for the worst!! Jacob still had a problem with keeping his bits in his pants. The problems began when he thought it would be a good idea to sneak up behind his flat mate (GG who is a girl) an piss all over her coat!! He nearly got his head kicked in when he tried to do the same to a big burley French bloke who was also in the cue!! He survived.......... Just!! Ate our food, went home and watched a Rolling Stones dvd!!

Monday 14th February 2005 - SBA in Nice
Dear diary. Left Honiton Devon at 4am to start our journey to Nice. We flew from Heathrow London to Charles de gaule airport Paris. We then had to catch connecting bus to Corly airport which is the other side of the city. We were shitting ourslves a bit as we only had 45mins to get from one airport to the other. We just made it with 3mins to spare!!! We arrived in Nice at 5pm and proceeded to Wayne's Bar. Had just enough time to set our gear up, have some dinner and freshen up before BINGO!! Bingo is a word that Smoo doesn't want to hear for a while. He called bingo at the same time as someone else which meant he had to compete for the prize!! 2mins later Smoo is stood at the front of the stage wearing a female dominatrix outfit. He lost the race and didn't get the prize which was a butt plug. He was gutted!!! Chappers was the next to shout BINGO!! He won a prize alright! Gay playing cards! NICE!! Had a good opening night on stage. Smoo had to keep his outfit on. He does look quite fetching in a Village People style leather studded hat!! The rest of us showed willing and as a result of this Scott wore an adult baby costume! Dan and Chappers just wore stupid hats!! Left Wayne's at 1am and went to 'Thor'. Chappers and Smoo went home with a baguette each (oooh err Mrs)!! Scott and Dan stayed out drinking till 4am. What a 24hr day!!!

Dear diary, We are really pleased to say that the album is now finished. YIPPEEE!! It went in the post this afternoon. All that is left to do now is for Matchbox Recordings to master the album and get the copies duplicated. This means that it should be released in about 2 weeks!!!!

Tuesday 2nd November 2004 - The new album
Dear diary. Sorry it's been so long since the last entry. We have been working really hard to try and get the album finished. Things are all a bit tense at the moment because we have to have the album in the post by friday!! We spent last night recording some more guitar parts and vocals. They are all done now which just leaves us to listen the album and sort out any minor mixing problems etc.

Dear diary, since our week in Nice we have been busy in the Sean's studio. Things are going really well and we are making good progress. Scott has been busy recording vocals this last week or so. We have also been busy puting the finishing touches to 'I Know What You're Thinking' which is nearly ready for release. How exciting!!

Sunday 19th September 2004 - SBA in Nice
| Dear diary. It was our last night in Wayne's last night (very sad!) We spent our last day doing something productive for a change. Scott and Dan spent an hour walking around the local market armed with a mini disc recorder and microphone. They managed to record some interesting noises. Hopefully some of them will be used on the new album.
The gig went really well again. Our kissing ladies were back on stage having fun. There was also a guest appearence by Justin the manager! He sang 'Jumping Jack Flash' with us!! We then left Wayne's Bar, went back to the flat, necked a couple of shots of whiskey and went out again. We ended up back in l'escalier pub with the staff from Wayne's. Two bottles of vodka later, we were all in a total mess (BUT NONE OF US WERE SICK ALL WEEK)!!
We left the flat at midday today and we were all very tired and rough. Chappers had to strip at the airport in order to get through the security detector. It wasn't funny!! We then had some lunch and borded the plane. The flight was very Nice (ha ha!) Arriving at Bristol on the other hand was not. It was bloody freezing!!
We all brought back some fond memories of our summer trip to Nice this year. "It was invigorating"!!!! |

Saturday 18th September 2004 - SBA in Nice
| Dear diary. It has been 3 days since our last entry. There are 3 reasons for this. The first and most important reason is that we have been incapable of writing due to the copious amounts of alcohol we have consumed during this time!! We all vowed at the start of the week that we were not going to get messsed up on drink and sleep deprevation. This has all gone out the window. We are a mess!!!!
The second reason is that the internet cafe was closed yesterday (much to our delight)! This is more of an excuse really as we still wouldn't of been able to write!!
The third reason is that due to our lack of sleep we have been going to the beach a bit later than usual. This has been a perfect oppertunity to catch up on some well earned rest!!
The gigs had all gone very well untill last night. Not to say it was bad it was just that it was very quiet to begin with. We had to work very hard to look like we were having fun. It started to get better near the end of the first set though!! We then downed a shot of alcohol each to try and pick ourselves up before the start of the second set.
The second set was much more interesting. The crowd got in to it and danced on the tables. We were then joined on stage by a couple of random girls during "Day Tripper". It was a bit of a squeeze up there (if you know what i mean!!) so Scott said that the only way that they could remain on the stage was if they were to French kiss in front of the whole pub. They remained on stage for the rest of the set and the photographs will be arriving soon!!!
We left Wayne's at closing time and each bought a baguette for supper. We then went back to the flat and watched 'Men In Black' before falling asleep. |

Wednesday 15th September 2004 - SBA in Nice
| Dear diary, woke up this morning and the weather was on the damp side. We decided to spend the day doing something constructive instead of the usual nothing. We sat in Waynes all afternoon watching films on the big screen and drinking beer. How constructive is that?! ("very", said a random frenchman in his best english accent).
We warmed ourselves up by watching 'School of Rock' followed by some gratuitous gore in 'Final Destination 2'. Pork chops for tea, back to the flat for a kip and we were ready to rock! OUCH!
The gig itself was great. We had the punters on the tables from the word go! At the end of the first set, Scott in true football style swapped shirts with one of the crowd. What he failed to tell us was that he'd swapped shirts with a lucky Australian girl and came back on wearing a lovely black spaghetti strapped top!! "it was a pleasant breeze under my armpit!". The second set was brilliant, we all had a great time on stage and managed to befriend a random french pisshead about the same age as your grandad!
At the end of the night we helped the staff clean up and afterwards went to escalier, drank vodka and played pool with the Waynes staff. Got back to the flat at about 5:32:27am. We fell asleep watching Al Murray, pub landlord. Oh what a night! Rock is alive and well in Nice! |
